The Challenge
Fatshark, the acclaimed developer behind the Warhammer series, sought to bring its popular titles—Warhammer: Darktide and Warhammer: Vermintide 2—to a global audience. To achieve maximum reach and inclusivity, Fatshark required high-quality localization of Vermintide 2 into eight languages and Darktide into nine languages.
Both games are set in the rich Warhammer universe, where terminology posed one of the most complex challenges. As a long-established world with vocabulary dating back to the late 1980s, Warhammer’s lore contains countless unique and historically rooted terms. Maintaining consistency and accuracy required familiarity not only with the project but also with decades of established lore. This created a unique linguistic challenge, demanding careful management of established names, concepts, and in-game language to preserve authenticity and ensure an immersive experience for each target market.
Our Solution
With proven expertise in gaming localization, TransPerfect Games assembled a specialized team of more than 100 linguists fluent in each target language. The project involved:
- Coordinated project management to ensure smooth scheduling and communication with Fatshark
- Consistent use of localization best practices, quality assurance, and in-game context review to maintain narrative integrity
- Close collaboration with Fatshark to enable prompt feedback and seamless integration of localized content
The Results
Both Darktide and Vermintide 2 were localized into all required languages and delivered on schedule, meeting Fatshark’s high quality standards across 2.6 million translated words. The games launched successfully and became accessible to millions of new players worldwide, expanding Fatshark’s fan base and strengthening its position in key global markets.
